The Southern Charity Hospital Trust was established in 2019 following Blair Vining’s highly publicised battle with terminal bowel cancer. Blair was an extraordinary man who turned his own tragedy into a legacy ensuring better cancer care for his community.

The Southern Charity Hospital provides free services to those in Southland and Otago, who are unable to access care through the public or private health systems. The hospital currently delivers perioperative care for colonoscopy and dentistry, with the vision to expand outpatient services in the future.

The Southern Charity Hospital was founded by the community, for the community. It relies on the generosity of volunteers: medical professionals willing to lend their time and expertise, and locals helping with the day to day running of the hospital.

The Role:

The Clinical Nurse Manager is a paid position responsible for facilitating efficient daily operations and coordinating a team of passionate healthcare volunteers.

Alongside the General Manager you will lead with empathy, expertise, and a commitment to excellence to further shape the nursing department. This role is primarily Monday to Friday, providing free elective day surgery and offers genuine lifestyle balance with a true sense of making a difference.

Key responsibilities include:

· Provide clinical leadership, coordination and management to ensure safe provision of patient care

· Assist in session and list management with oversight of clinical delivery and safety implications

· Contribute to the production and review of clinical policies and procedures

· Ensure the hospital and clinical facilities are maintained and in safe and optimum working order

· Lead and support capability building for the team of volunteers

About You:

To be successful in this role you will have the passion and drive to go the extra mile. With well-developed problem-solving skills, sound decision making and the ability to delegate, you will also be able to demonstrate:

· Significant post graduate Theatre and Perioperative experience with clinical nursing practice at a senior level

· Proven leadership ability

· Current annual practicing certificate with Nursing Council of New Zealand

· Post graduate degree (or working towards) is desirable

· Knowledge of quality improvement processes and principles

· Empathetic, patient focussed and committed to excellence

· Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications on healthcare
